◎簡　　介　

　　影片講述的是戰火逼近家園，親人安危不保，馬丁拿起刀槍投入美國獨立戰爭的故事。

　　農場主本傑明?馬丁（梅爾?吉布森飾），出生在南卡羅萊納州，並在那長大成人，他是法國人的後代，他以此為自豪。馬丁曾經勇敢地參加過法國人與印第安人的激烈戰鬥，殘酷的戰爭奪去了他的妻子，從此他決定遠離戰爭和暴力，要和第二個妻子夏洛特及八個可愛的孩子守著農場過寧靜而平和的生活。可是當英軍鐵蹄踏上他的故鄉南卡羅萊納的時候，他的一個兒子慘死在戰爭中，馬丁不得不拿起武器與他的大兒子加布裡埃爾（希思?萊傑飾）一起，組織起當地的愛國者與兇惡殘暴、氣勢囂張的英軍展開殊死鬥爭。殘酷的現實使馬丁懂得，要想保護自己的家人和家園，唯一的辦法就是拿起武器為國家和自由而戰。
